Preparing for Thanksgiving – Mealtime Monday

As you begin to finalize your grocery list for Thanksgiving, make sure to add this Thanksgiving appetizer to the menu!

Thanksgiving is such a great time of year; it’s a time to reflect on what we are thankful for and to celebrate with friends and family.

This year Thanksgiving will be at my parents’ home and in addition to our small family we have invited some close friends to share the holiday with. Every year that my mother and I get to spend Thanksgiving together, we always meal plan a few weeks in advance. So as we began discussing the menu for this year, she asked about an appetizer. Now admittedly I tend to spend the day in the kitchen cooking so I am tasting/snacking along the way, so an appetizer had never crossed my mind. But this year we are going for it!

A dish that is a must have on our Thanksgiving table, for me, is stuffing. I’m not terribly particular and many years it has been as simple as the kind that comes from a box. In my opinion, there is never enough and it is the first thing on my plate. So as I began brainstorming ideas, I kept coming back to how to use even more stuffing in the meal. I then began thinking of the crowd we’d be feeding and of course bacon came to mind. It was decided, bacon wrapped stuffing with a cranberry dipping sauce. To take it one step further, I also thought; why not add sausage to the stuffing? Genius! And sure to be gone almost instantly with the group that will assemble this year.

If you’re not looking to add to your Thanksgiving meal, but are simply looking for what to do with your leftovers, this appetizer would be a great side made with leftover stuffing! Put along side those turkey sandwiches and I guarantee no one will be sad to be eating leftovers.
