Baked Apples – Mealtime Monday

Published by grubwife

Fall is finally here and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with baked apples!

Baked Apples

  • 3 Apples
  • 3 tbsp Orange Juice
  • 1 tbsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp Granulated Sugar

The Topping

  • 1 stick softened Butter
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1 cup light Brown Sugar
  • 1 package of Instant Oatmeal
Ingredients

Directions

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.

The Topping

Starting with the topping, in a medium size mixing bowl, combine softened butter, flour, brown sugar and instant oatmeal. Using a fork or pastry blender, work together ingredients until completely mixed. Set to the side.

Combined Topping

Next, peel your apples and cut in half. Using a metal spoon (I used a teaspoon), remove the core plus a little extra creating a well. Depending on how much topping you want each apple to have, the amount you scoop out will vary. Place the apples in a baking dish.

Peeled and Cored Apples

Pour orange juice over apples, try to get them completely coated in the orange juice.

Sprinkle both sides of the apples with the ground cinnamon and granulated sugar.

Apples with cinnamon and sugar

With the inner side of the apple facing up, top each apple with as much topping as your heart desires. If there is any remaining topping, place it in the baking dish. It’ll soak up the orange juice and get slightly caramelized.

Ready to go in the oven!

Bake in the preheated oven for 2 hours. You can vary your bake time based on how soft you like your apples to be. I like mine to be very tender but still holding their shape.

Time to cool!

Allow to cool for about 5 minutes before serving. If you want to make this treat even more decadent, add a scoop of your favorite ice cream or some whipped topping.

Enjoy!
