Here’s a quick guide on how to make a cute and personalized desk organizer for less than $5!

I am always looking for cute and inexpensive ways to stay organized. So what better than this crafty desk organizer that you can personalize with fun fabric and use cans from your pantry!? Not only does this idea work perfect for any office it would be a great addition to your bathroom to hold make-up brushes or perfect for your craft area to help hold paint brushes and calligraphy pens. Whatever you may be organizing, I hope you enjoy this fun take on a personalized desk organizer!

What you’ll need:

Supplies you'll need for your Desk Organizer
  • Empty, cleaned cans
  • Fabric
  • Hot Glue gun (I recommend using mod podge if you’re crafting with the kids)
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Optional: Ribbon or String
  • I was able to find five fat quarters of fabric for $4.97 in patterns that I loved and had plenty of left over fabric. So depending on the size of cans you are working with you could probably only use two or three if you do not want to have all different fabric styles.

Measuring how much fabric to cut

I chose to wrap the cans twice in order to avoid seeing the lines of the can and to avoid trying to get all of the sticky stuff off from the label. I also left about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch of fabric overhanging on the top and base.

    Ready to roll!

With my hot glue gun I placed a single line of glue from the top of the can to the base. I then rolled the can twice in the fabric and repeated the process of placing a line of glue from the top of the can to the base.

Wrapping the base of the can

With the base side up, place a dime size amount of hot glue near one of the edges and fold a section of the fabric down to adhere. Continue in a circular pattern until all of the fabric has been secured. Place on it’s side until the hot glue has cooled and hardened. Once hardened, with the open side up, place a strip of hot glue around the inner side of the brim of the can. Fold fabric inward securing with the hot glue. Repeat this process until all of your cans are covered in fabric.

    Finished Personalized Desk Organizer!

As you can see, I chose to add some ribbon to my center can for a little something extra. Because I’m not quite sure where this will be going in my office just yet, I did not secure all of the cans together. Once you are certain about the placement for your cute new desk organizer, place a line of glue along the edges you want to secure.
